The Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation has announced the appointment of Sophia Hammett Turner as its new Board President.
Ms. Hammett Turner succeeds Sheila Mendleson, who served as Board President beginning in 2023 and will continue to serve in the role of Immediate Past President, and Daniel J. Hogarty Jr., who served in the role from the Foundation’s establishment in 2004. Their combined leadership has helped shape the Foundation’s long-standing commitment to strengthening local communities through strategic philanthropy.
“As new Board President, I am committed to working with the Board of Directors and Executive Director to invest in our region’s nonprofits and the people they serve,” said Hammett Turner. “The Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation plays a vital role in supporting organizations that enrich and uplift our communities, and I look forward to continuing that important work.”
Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $18 million in grants to local nonprofit organizations serving Albany and Rensselaer Counties. Grantmaking focuses on youth and community development and arts and culture, reflecting the Foundation’s mission to enhance quality of life and foster vibrant, resilient communities.
The Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to Ms. Mendleson and Mr. Hogarty for their years of dedicated service and leadership, which have been instrumental in guiding the organization’s growth and community impact.
As Board President, Hammett Turner will work closely with the Board of Directors to help guide the Foundation’s strategic direction and oversee its continued support of nonprofit partners throughout the region.
