New STEM-Focused Playground in Rensselaer Encourages Creative Play

The Covid-19 pandemic has helped all of us understand the importance of being outdoors. This is especially true for our children, who crave the chance to run, climb, and explore in the fresh air during all seasons of the year. The Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO) Family Resource Center in the City of Rensselaer understood how important outdoor play was for the children in its child care and Head Start programs. The Center’s playground was dilapidated and in need of updating, and they approached several local funders for help in reimagining it. Funding from the Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation along with help from Regeneron and others helped build a new STEM-focused outdoor playground that is inclusive for all children, including those with disabilities.
