THE TROY SAVINGS BANK CHARITABLE FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF OPERATING SUPPORT GRANTS

May 27, 2009

TROY, NY – In response to the current economic challenges affecting many Capital Region area non-profit organizations, The Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation has announced temporary changes to its grant application guidelines.  The most significant change to the guidelines is in the area of operating support grantmaking.  While the foundation has always awarded several small operating support grants each year, it will now increase the maximum amount for which human service organizations may apply to $10,000 annually.

These operating support grants will be targeted for those organizations serving low-to-moderate income populations whose core mission is provision of  basic and essential services (i.e., food, clothing, shelter or housing assistance, and employment).  Priority will be given to those organizations that:

·         Can provide evidence of significant organizational cost-cutting measures; and

·         Operate effective, proven programs; and

·         Are positioned to impact populations directly impacted by the economic downturn; and

·         Have strong management and resource development policies and practices

Applicants interested in applying for operating support from the Foundation should contact Leslie Cheu, Executive Director for the Foundation at (518) 720-0004 to discuss the organizational need.  Those organizations invited to apply for operating support will be asked to complete the Foundation’s Core Support Grant Application, a streamlined version of its grant application.

The Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation was established in 1999 to provide financial support to not-for-profit organizations in Albany, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, and Washington counties. Since 1999, the Foundation has provided over $5,000,000 in funding to community organizations in these counties.  Additional information about the Foundation can be found at www.tsbfoundation.org.
